Talk on Winifred Letts, Salford poet by Cynthia Greenwood. Winifred Letts was born in 1882 in Broughton. She had a prolific writing career producing plays, poetry, short stories, children's books and an autobiography. She was a nurse during World War One and also worked as a therapeutic masseuse.

The Great War: Myths and Realities.
The first of our series of WW1 exhibitions probes behind the myths of war and its "glories". It explores topics such as Salford's response to the outbreak of war, the strength of the anti-war movement locally and nationally, what happened to the campaign which had gathered momentum by 1914 to get the vote for women - and the realities of trench warfare.

Peace History Conference 2014
Peace History Conference. Speakers include Cyril Pearce on the COs and opposition to WW1, John Gittings on how the centenary is being interpreted; Ingrid Sharp on German peace activism in WW1; Clive Barrett on the origins of the Fellowship of Reconciliation, and Speaking in Tongues theatre group on the women who went to The Hague in 1915.

Douglas Newton will be discussing WW1 and his new book 'The Darkest Days: The Truth Behind Britain's Rush to War, 1914' @ the Bishopsgate Institute in London on 23rd September. The book is excellent and he's an excellent speaker (he ran a session at this year's Peace News Summer Camp). He'll be joined by Vron Ware and Joe Glenton in the discussion afterwards.

Suffrage …. It will also explore what the Call to Arms meant to thousands of local families …. Missing from the list is any mention of Conscientious Objectors so Merseyside CND are trying to run an information stall focussing on them.
