The Pilgrimage from Scotland and down the east side of England aims to focus public attention on the Government proposals to spend £100 billion pounds renewing the Trident nuclear weapons system, while continuing to slash NHS, education and social welfare budgets. It will be organised in stages, and people will be invited to join in walking as many or few stages as they can manage. As the Pilgrimage makes its way southwards, there will be opportunities for local churches, Quaker Meetings and other groups along the route to promote discussion on Trident and wider issues of social and economic justice.
